Here I am nearing the end of my sabbatical and I am still having a pleasant time. Post sabbatical I’ll just be unemployed but that’s okay too. Like I said before, if you live below your means, and you have privileges, you can stretch having time off from work. I’m lucky but I also work hard. Understanding how and why I have this is a concept I think about every day.
I’m enjoying the simple things in life like leisurely coffee time in the morning and taking lots of walks.
I’ve been reading more than I usually do. I read a novel about women living (and surviving) in Jamaica called Here Comes the Sun: A Novel by Nicole Dennis-Benn. I’m finally getting a chance to read Rebecca Traister’s All The Single Ladies. Traister deeply researched this book. She weaves all of it together so well with personal anecdotes too. It is not a light read. I want to take it all in slowly. I’m also reading Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies because I’ve heard it’s a well-written book about the nuances in female relationships. Plus, I would like to see the HBO miniseries having already read the book.
Today I found a few networking events and classes that I actually want to attend. I printed out some personal business cards at the local office supply store. I started pulling up data software to practice my coding skills. I’m gearing up.
I feel like I’m just getting started with time off. This won’t last forever but I’m going to enjoy it in the meantime.
